Son et lumière (Sound & Light Show) - CPD Webinar – 2 Formal CPD Points
Join us, as we explore the fascinating world of sound and light and learn how advances in digital technologies are expanding the options for designers in both disciplines. Nick Boulter is the Associate Principal | Acoustic and Theatre Consulting, Arup and Rebecca Cadorin is Senior Lighting Designer, Arup.
Lighting context
Lighting plays a significant role within the built environment, integrating with and enhancing other disciplines. It’s a multifaceted discipline, incorporating a mixture of art, science and technology that bring designs to life.
Rebecca will describe how we perceive light + colour and how it can be used to entice strong emotions and reactions, as well as impact our cognitive performance, our health + wellbeing and social behaviours.
Attendees will learn:
Understanding the role that lighting plays in built environment
How light is described and measured
Incorporating Daylight + Artificial lighting
The fundamental lighting principles
New digital techniques + tools in modelling of lighting project: Lighting Vulnerability Assessment, HDR Imaging, B.UX
Acoustic Context
Nick will describe how we perceive sound and noise and the physical principles that govern how the built environment affects our sonic experiences. The talk will be supplemented with examples and demonstrations. Recent advances in digital techniques in acoustic design will also be discussed and how these are being used to involve users in the decision-making process in building design and environmental noise mitigation.
Attendees will learn:
How sound is described and measured
Why the aural environment is so important?
The fundamental acoustic properties of materials
How sound behaves in rooms
How noise propagates outside
New digital techniques in modelling of acoustic environments
