As project creators, architects, engineers and builders have a critical role to play in setting the framework and systems to achieve zero carbon outcomes for construction projects. One of the solutions that design and building professionals can immediately embrace to achieve sustainable outcomes is Passive House.

Passive House is a building standard that promotes energy efficient design, resulting in a comfortable, affordable and ecologically sustainable building environment. The results are predictable and measurable.

Founded in building science, the system was developed to deliver the healthiest, most high-performance buildings available.

Through a combination of high levels of insulation and building seal, plus natural ventilation, the Passive House approach to design and construction delivers energy efficient buildings that feel great to use, as well as life-long low operating costs.

Creating a high-performance envelope means that the whole fabric of the building is contributing to energy use reduction. This approach is applicable to new-build and adaptation projects (EnerPHit) in all sectors, including the residential, education, civic, arts and commercial sectors.

Esteemed Heritage Architects, Lovell Chen, have adopted this approach for all their design work, seeking to deliver a highly energy-efficient outcome for all projects.

In supporting and collaborating with consultants and contractors to realise such outcomes, they have developed innovative approaches for 19th and 20th century heritage buildings and contributed to a general awareness of what can be achieved.

This webinar will present many of Lovell Chen's project case studies from the perspective of the architect, ESD and Passive House consultant, services engineer and building contractor, demonstrating how the Passive approach is eminently achievable.

Meet the Experts

Anne-Marie Treweeke | Director, Lovell Chen

Anne-Marie Treweeke is a key member of Lovell Chen’s leadership team, bringing her more than 25 years’ experience in architecture and master planning to the strategic role of high-level practice management and development while continuing to input into key projects involving strategic thinking and stakeholder and community consultation.

Milica Tumbas | Principal & Certified Passive House Designer, Lovell Chen

Milica leads a team of architects and conservation specialists. Her expertise includes the design and adaptation of buildings to Passive House standards, and the seismic strengthening of heritage buildings to meet current requirements. Most of Milica's work at Lovell Chen involves the integration of old and new, and in this work she places importance on extending the life of existing buildings and fabric — often through finding new functional uses, as well as improving the fabric and building services. She focuses on the well-being of occupants for a whole project, whether the fabric is old or new, while maintaining the heritage values of existing buildings. She is a certified Passive House designer and consultant.
