Mecca Events will be hosting the 3rd event in the Building Defects Crisis series on 29 June. This event will be a Q&A panel discussion, moderated by construction law expert, Helen Kowal of Swaab Lawyers. Helen will be joined by our leading experts across a range of areas from architecture, engineering, waterproofing, fire and cladding to discuss all aspects that are impacting on construction industry, where we are going wrong, what we are doing right and what we need to do to minimise the problems that continue to occur in our buildings.

The industry expert panel will be answering your questions and leading discussion on the major problems in construction today. Following registration you will receive a form/questionnaire that we would encourage you to complete and send back to us with your thoughts & questions for the panel in advance. Questions will be collated and summarised and will be answered on the night.

Industry expert panel will discuss:

  • Will compliance with the NCC in its current form actually deliver fit for purpose, liveable and sustainable housing.

  • Building designers regulation reform - what's the progress here & is more regulation the answer?

  • Latest developments on flammable cladding issue and fire risk in commercial buildings.

  • Status of the Designers & Building Practitioners Bill (NSW) and potential for uptake in other Australian cities

Cost to attend is $90 per person plus GST. Attendees will receive a recording of the webinar along with an updated copy of Helen's CPD presentation on the Designers & Building Practitioners Bill.

The Mecca Events Building Defects Series is specifically designed for Architects, Property & Strata managers, Building Owners, engineers, certifiers and other Construction Professionals. Builders attending can apply for CPD training points following the seminar.

Helen's legal career has spanned over 25 years in general practice and, for the past decade, she has specialised in building, construction, property and strata. Helen has worked for many owners corporations, developers and builders in every facet of building and construction law and within all jurisdictions.

Tadd Walford

Tadd joined Partridge in 2016 and has over 14 years’ knowledge in the field of structural engineering consulting. He has extensive experience in the design and site supervision of residential, industrial, commercial and civil works projects, in concrete, steel, masonry and timber, and the investigation, reporting and remediation of structural building defects.

Paul Ratcliff

Paul is one of the top waterproofing consultants in Australia and spends a lot of time at the Supreme Court presenting his findings on building faults and moisture penetration. His 30 years’ practical, onsite experience provides a strong foundation in understanding how structures are built and why they fail.

Geoff Hanmer

Geoff Hanmer is an Adjunct Professor of Architecture at the University of Adelaide and is also the Managing Director of ARINA, an architectural consultancy based in Sydney. He is an Architect and a frequent writer contributor on construction and building issues both contemporary and historical.

Peter Karsai

Peter started his career as a structural engineer before moving into the area of facades where he has now been a specialist for over 30 years. During that time, Peter’s project-related work has ranged from new “landmark” projects, to major rectification/renewal projects, through to detailed design support for cladding subcontractors. Peter is also a director of “Facade Industry Australasia”, a recently formed not-for-profit organisation that has just been set up to help focus the facade industry towards better outcomes for both the industry and society.
