Pushing the Envelope - CPD Webinar

The changing function of Building Envelopes

Once seen simply as the skin and a façade of the building, building envelopes have taken on a more critical role for architects over recent years.

Beyond simply protecting us from the elements, the building envelope has the potential to actively promote the happiness of their users as multi sensory environmental filters.

The building envelope plays a key role in determining the internal comfort of buildings so they present architects, engineers, project managers and owners with an opportunity to improve outcomes.

The challenge is to consider new approaches to maximise occupant and community well-being. Facades can play a key role and good design means rethinking the fundamentals and looking for new opportunities for a holistic building envelope approach and the benefits it can bring to building function and comfort.

This webinar will be led by Chris Hube, Associate Arup, Gary Wertheimer, Principal, GIW Environmental Solutions and Jock Gammon, Founder & CEO Junglefy, who will look at:

  • Current and future trends in building envelopes including "living facades" and role in occupant well being

  • Factors driving change for new facade systems

  • Section J changes NCC 2019 (Section J) specifically thermal bridging & facade U Values - effects on different building classifications

  • Building envelope as a productive element

  • Low environmental impact materials - timber & recycled materials

  • What designers need to consider in their planning with these new NCC regulations for facades?

  • Case studies of façade projects (both locally and overseas) where design innovation, engineering integrity and material selection have optimised building envelope efficiencies.

  • Green facades - plant selection, maintenance, waterproofing considerations

Learning outcomes derived from attending this webinar will result in attendees being able to:

  • Explain the difference between  a ‘façade’ and ‘building envelope’

  • List the key areas for improving building energy efficiency

  • Provide examples of digital design tools that can be used to design & construct building envelopes

  • Outline how building envelopes can be more productive and provide examples - energy generation, food production, by-products for manufacturing or improving the air quality

Cost to attend is $80 per person or $275 for a group of 4. Includes recorded presentation. 2 formal CPD points are available for attending this webinar. Prices subject to GST
